Zeitouna

If you're looking for a quick and tasty Lebanese style lunch, I would recommend Zeitouna in American Alley, Juffair.  The guys at work were telling me how good the Chicken Freekeh, Kabab Instanboli and Chicken Kabab sandwiches were, but the 4 cheese Fromages (1.95BD) and the Moussaka (3.2BD) caught my attention. The 4 cheese Fromages was very good, if you like a cheese filled Nan or a cheese quesadilla, then you'll love the Fromages.  The Moussaka was very good as well.  Filled with eggplant, meat and a lot of cheese.  This was enough food for two people, but I was able to gorge through it with no problem.

Entertainer Bahrain 2015

I just received the new 2015 Entertainer Bahrain book today, which contains 650 buy one get one free offers.  You also get a Entertainer travel book that has over 250 buy one get one free hotel offers for use throughout the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe.  I ordered it from the Entertainer website and received the 20% discount.  I opted for the book vice the app, just because I think it will work better between my wife and I.  The pre-order price was only 25BD, and it was delivered to my personal residence within a couple days.  Each year, I usually pay off the book in savings within the first couple weeks of the year.  A couple trips to Maki, The Butcher Shop Grill, Fuddruckers and Tony Roma's, and you'll have some great savings throughout the year.  I also noticed they had the books, including the sample book so you can see all the coupons, at the Carrefour at the City Centre.

Round Table Pizza

Round Table Pizza, a U.S. pizza franchise from the west coast has landed in Juffair.  Located in the Al Raya Mall, the newly opened restaurant is serving up some pretty good pizza, sandwiches and flatbreads.  My wife and I ordered the Antipesto Salad (2.1BD) which came with black olives, mushrooms, artichokes and salami.  It was very good and served two people with no problem.  We then ordered a medium size King Authur's Supreme Pan (4.3BD). The pizza had no shortage of toppings. It came with heapings of pepperoni, Italian sausage, salami, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, black olives with a zesty red sauce.  Like I said, there was no shortage of toppings on the pizza.  The pizza was great.  I'm getting used to the wood oven style pizza's; however, Round Table will give the other American pizza chains (Pizza Hut, Dominoes, Papa Johns) a run for their money. Also, there will be another location opening soon in the Sultan Mall, Isa town

Bun Bun

In the new shopping complex on American Alley in Juffair, you'll find Bun Bun Burgers and More.  There's been quite a buzz about the place, specifically the Filet Mignon and Calamari. I went with a couple friends, who had a great experience at the restaurant already.  I ordered the Bun Bun salad (3.9BD) and my friends ordered the Filet Mignon (7.8BD) and Golden Calamari (2.7BD).  You get a complimentary bun with different oils as an appetizer. The Calamari is probably one of the best in Bahrain, served with tarter and a sweet chili sauce.  The Filet is served with your choice of Mushroom Sauce, Pepper Sauce, Blue Cheese, Balsamic Herbs or Chimichurri Sauce.  I sampled the steak and it was delicious.  I've been hearing about how good the steak was all week, especially for the price. The Bun Bun salad was also delicious, served with shrimp, crab salad and avocado.  The chef actually came to the table to introduce some of the food and took our order.  The entire meal was delicious.  The what I was expecting from a place called Bun Bun located in American Alley.

Honey Restaurant (Thai)

I've been asking around for a few months where the best "local" Thai food is.  The two places people recommended were the Banana Leaf in Adliya and Honey Restaurant by the Gold Souk. I tried Banana Leaf not so long ago (see review), and now I tried Honey.  Both were good, but Honey's is my pick over the two.  Just around the corner from the Gold Souk, you'll see the restaurant.  Once you go in, you'll probably get hit in the face with a little fish smell. This is ok, because the food is delicious. My wife and I ordered a feast to include the papaya salad, wantons, green curry with garlic rice and Hammour fish with cashew (spicy) (3BD). As you can see, the portions are huge and most items on the menu run about 2-3BD each.  Everything was very good, but the Hammour was my favorite. The entire meal with a couple soft drinks was 11BD.

Vesuvio (Pizza)

Have you every ordered your pizza by the meter? That's how it's ordered up at Vesuvius, located in the Best Western in Juffair. The oven isn't ready until 7pm, so plan accordingly.  I went with a few other people using our buy one get one free Entertainer coupons.  We ordered the 1/4 meter Margherita (4.5BD) and the 1/4 meter pepperoni Lovers (5.0BD).  The pizza is then rolled out on a cart and served at the table.  Overall, not a bad experience.  However, I'm not sure I would go back without the coupon.

Tea Club (Jupiter Burger)

The Tea Club is one of my favorites at Amwaj. No, it's more than a place for the ladies to have tea; they have a pretty good food menu as well. On this trip, I had to try the Jupiter Burger (4.4BD). The menu reads a beef burger from space with a crispy cheese bomb, cheddar slices, iceberg lettuce and tomato. As you can tell by the picture, the cheese bomb was the hit of this sandwich! Once you bite into this monster, the cheese comes oozing out like molten lava.  The burger was excellent and a must try for the burger fans out there.

Mohd Noor Al-Bokhari (Biryani and Chops)

If you're looking to try a little "local", then I would definitely recommend Mohd Noor. The restaurant is located just up the street from Iskenderun Grill, near Expedition Ave. My friend and I ordered the "mechanical" chicken, also know to most westerners as rotisserie chicken and rice. The chicken and rice was served on a platter the size of a hub cap, it was huge.  In addition to the chicken and rice, we ordered some lamb chops.  Everything was absolutely delicious.  Despite giving it a great effort, we couldn't finish off all the rice.  The chicken, rice, chops and drinks came to 5.2BD.  One observation I did note was the downstairs main entrance was all men.  Families that were eating entered the side door and dined in the "family" section.

Vesuvio

Some friends and I went over to Vesuvio in Juffair (In the Best Western) to try their pizza and use one my Entertainer Guide coupons.  Unfortunately, the pizza oven wasn't ready until 7pm, so we had to change course and order something else of the menu.  I ordered the Vesuvius Burger and my friends ordered the Chicken Parmesan.  The burger was a 1/2lb monster, with sun-dried tomato, a fried egg and beef or pork bacon. I ordered the pork bacon on the sandwich; however, I'm told the bacon was more European style, almost like baked ham.  Overall the burger was pretty good, but for almost 5BD, I was expecting more out of the plate.  As I've stated on other posts, the bun usually makes it or breaks it for me, and I felt a little disappointed with the bun.  My friends reported the Chicken Parmesan (5.2BD)  was very good, with a nice helping of spaghetti alongside. Although we made out with the Entertainer Guide coupon, we still got hit with a 1.8 service charge.

Sombreo's (Breakfast)

If you're a fan of Sombreo's taco shop (see previous review), then you'll really enjoy the breakfast menu they offer.  I stopped in and tried the Machaca burrito (2BD). I ordered it with shredded beef, eggs, bell pepper and onion. Wow, it was a great breakfast burrito.  The question is how many burritos should you eat.  I had one and it was filling; however, it was really good and I was tempted to order a second.  One is filling, two would surely make you very full.

Tony Lukes (Wingman Promotion)

My friend and I just visited Tony Luke's in Juffair to check out their new "Wingman" promotion.  They are offering either "bone-in" or "boneless" serving of either 8 (1.4BD), 16 (2.3BD) , 24 (3.5BD), 50 (6.4BD) or 100 (11.5BD) wings at a very reasonable price.  There are 10 different flavors to choose from: Mild Buffalo, Hot Buffalo, Super Hot Buffalo, Honey BBQ, Garlic Parmesan, Cajun Crunch, Asian Zing, Lemon Pepper, Spicy Garlic and Jamaican Jerk.
All of the the flavors have a very distinct taste. If you've had the Tony Luke's flavored fries, you'll know what I'm talking about.  My favorite was a tie between the Cajun Crunch and the Spicy Garlic. The Hot and Super Hot Buffalo were very good as well.  I'm not sure which one got me, either the Hot or Super Hot Buffalo, but after a few wings, I had a little tear in my eye and heat on the lips. We also tried both the bone-in and the boneless wings.  This is going to be personal preference, but we both preferred the "bone-in." If you ask me, Bahrain has been lacking a good place for wings at a reasonable price, and I think Tony Luke's and their Wingman promotion has just filled that void.

Lemon (Dinner)

I've been to Lemon at Amwaj for breakfast, lunch and now dinner.  Once again, another great meal. I ordered the Fish and Chips (4.8BD) and my friend ordered Eggplant and Halloumi Salad (2.9BD) with a side order of Chicken Tenders (2.6BD).  The fish was perfect, and the chips were actually thinly sliced potatoes chips (not french fries).  My friend reported the tenders were ok and the salad was really good. Whether you going for breakfast, lunch or dinner, you're surely to get a great meal at Lemon.

Pomodorini (Pizza)

There's a new Italian restaurant open in Juffair in the new Al Osra shopping complex (by the Diva Hotel).  Pomodorini's offers a nice selection of menu items to include antipasti, pizza, pasta, risotto, steak and seafood.  I've been there twice this week for the pizza.  If you like an Italian style pizza (thin crust, little sauce and good ingredients), then you'll have to check this out.  As you can tell by the pictures, the size of the pizza is the size of a large place, so there isn't much room for sharing if this in your only entree.  However, the price is right.  On my first trip, I ordered the Napoli (2.5BD).  The Napoli comes with mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce, olives, anchovies and capers.  I substituted the anchovies for mushrooms and it was delicious.  On my second trip, I ordered the American Hot (3.0BD), which came with mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce, pepperoni sausage and green peppers.  The pepperoni was actually pretty good. Bothe pizza were very good.  Add 500 fills for a drink, and you have yourself a nice value meal.  One other side note, there were no other taxes, service charges, etc to the bill.  A pizza and coke for 3BD.  They also offer free delivery. 17000121.  www.pomodorini.me

Vapiano's (Calzone)

Vapiano's is one of our favorite places for pizza and salad.  On this trip, my wife and I ordered the calzone, with veggies and pepperoni (4.5BD).  Additionally, we ordered our favorite Insalate Mista salad (3.2BD).  My wife actually ordered the same thing a few days before and reported the calzone was enormous and came out about the size of the plate.  As you can tell by the picture, that wasn't the case on this trip, but the calzone was still very good none the less. In my opinion, the calzone was good, but I'll order the pizza on my next trip.

Kosebasi (Breakfast)

If you're ever at the Citi Centre and the line is too long at IHOP, then you should make your way over to Kosebasi for a Turkish breakfast.  I have been there once before for breakfast (See Review), so I knew what I was going to order the Menemem Omelet (2.4BD), which is made with tomato and peppers.  My wife ordered the Ispanakli Omelet (2.9BD). Both meals are very good.  On our last trip, we ordered the bread platter, and were overwhelmed by all the bread.  On this trip, we skipped the bread; however, we felt a void when all the food was on the table. Next time, we'll order the bread!

Fat Burger

In an effort to use an Entertainer coupon and shave off a few calories, I ordered the Veggie Burger meal at Fat Burger.  Since the coupon required the purchase of a double burger, I ordered the double veggie and my wife ordered the double cheese burger.  After my last trip to Elevation Burger, I knew my wife was in for the better tasting burger.  Again, the veggie burger was filling, but sure lacked the taste of the double cheese burger.  We shared an order of the Fat Fries, which was the highlight of my meal.  Overall, not a bad meal using the coupon.  Two double burgers, two drinks and an order of Fat Fries for 6.2BD.

Tony Luke's (Special Promotion)

Tony Lukes's has been hitting the social media outlets promoting their new Jalapeño Ranch Chicken Cheese Steak.  Well, the 1BD promotion got my attention and I went to give it a try.  I visited the Juffair location and was greeted by a very friendly staff.  I told the clerk I was there for the new chicken sandwich and ordered the sandwich with brown bread, a small fry and drink.  The sandwich alone is 1BD, make it a combo for only 1.7BD.  On this visit, I ordered regular fries, so I would't get distracted eating the sandwich. Tony Roma's has some of the best flavored fries on island, including Salt and Vinegar, BBQ, Cajan and Sour Cream and Onion.  Ok, back to the sandwich, the sandwich is loaded with chicken, Jalapeño peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes.  It then has a generous topping of the ranch sauce and provolone cheese.  The sandwich was very flavorful and filling...I would rush in and take advantage of the promotion while it last.

Sombreo Mexican Taco Shop

There has been a lot of buzz about the new Taco Shop in Juffair.  Located just past American Alley, near the sports complex, is the small taco shop offering Southern California style tacos.  The reviews have been mixed, and I'll tell you why.  Let me tell you what Sombreo's is not, it's not Taco Bell, Senior Paco or Casa Mexicana.  You're not going to get tacos's loaded with lettuce, tomato and sour cream.  Now, what Sombrero's is however, a nice place to get a really good beef taco.  I've been there a couple times now, and I've tried the Beef Taco (1.8BD) and California Carne Asada (burrito) (3BD).  Both I thought were very good.  The owner (a SOCAL Native) told me the taco's are all hand made and involves a lot of work by the cook. First the beef preparation in the morning, then they actually make the tortilla when you order. The result is very good.  The California burrito was stuffed with meat and potato and was very tasty.  To top it off, I would recommend an order of the chips and guacamole (1BD). The owner also told me they are open for breakfast in the morning, so I'll have to check that out on another trip.

Passion Restaurant and Lounge

My wife and recently had dinner at Passion in Adliya.  Let me say up front, the dinner was excellent. The menu offered a good variety of menu items. We ordered the grilled Halloumi cheese (1.8BD) for an appetizer and I ordered the Thai Duo with Chicken (3.9BD), which includes both a red and green curry. A side of steamed rice was an additional .9BD. My wife ordered the Stir Fry Noodle Beef (2.4BD).  Both meals were delicious and the atmosphere at the restaurant was very nice. Additionally, there is a lot of seating inside and outside, so I'll be looking forward to going back when the temperatures drop for some outside dining.
