Tony Lukes

Tony Lukes is offering a "Happy Hour" sale on a cheese steak combo.  You can get a sandwich, fries and a drink for only 1.9BD from 2-6pm. I paid a few extra fills for the Cajun Fries and mushrooms on my sandwich.  Overall, not a bad deal. If you haven't been to Tony Lukes yet, you should give it a try. The Philly Cheese Steak with chess is pretty good. I order it with provolone cheese, but you can get them with the Cheeze Wiz as well.  What I like best is the fries, I absolutely love them. You can get them with different flavors, BBQ, Salt & Vinegar, Cajun.  They also offer chicken cheese steak and burgers.

Kosebasi (Turkish)

I recently visited Kosebasi for breakfast, and really enjoyed the meal.  So, when a friend came to town and wanted to try some Turkish food, several of us headed over to the City Centre for lunch. I had the Ezo Gelin Soup (red lentil), the Patlican Salatas (a turkish version of mutable) and the Lahmacun. Everything I ordered was delicious.  My order, with a peach ice tea came to 7.48BD. Also ordered at the table was the Tarsusi Kebap, Ispanakli Pid, Gavurdagi, Icli kofte.  Everyone really enjoyed the meal, and it all came at a reasonable price.

Tony Roma's (Steak and Ribs)

It's been a while since we've been out to Isa Town, so we went and hit Tony Roma's.  We were greeted by the entire wait staff who must have had some recent customer service training, because everyone was over-the-top friendly and attentive to our every need.  We were using the buy one entree, get one free coupon; but learned that the coupon was only good for the steak, rib and chicken entrees. (We were going to order burgers)  With a quick change on our selection, I ordered the Roma Rack beef ribs (8.5BD) and my wife ordered the Rib Eye steak (8.9BD).  The ribs came out big, meaty and very good.  Of course, they are a little different than pork ribs.  I was a little disappointed in the quantity of french fries and cole slaw. Both were very good, but just small portions for the price.  My wife's plate on the other hand had a huge potato and corn on the cobb.  Both meals were very good.  Add a couple ice teas to drink, the total cost of the meal was 12.43BD after the coupon.  Note: Be sure to go online and complete the survey after your visit for a 10% discount on your next trip.  I'll be using that for the burgers!

Casa Mexicana

It was a Mexican on the menu during our stop at Casa Mexicana in Adilya.  My wife went for her staple Shredded Beef Tostada's with beans and rice (4BD). I opted for the Martha Combo (5BD).  The Martha came with a beef taco, cheese enchilada, chicken burrito with beans and rice.  The taco was a little soggy, but the meal was still delicious.  Add a couple ice tea's and the bill came to 13.28BD.

Dublin's (Irish)

Looking to use another buy one, get one entree free coupon, we headed over to Dublin's in Juffair for dinner.  Dublin's offers a variety of menu items including some traditional Irish dishes. The BBQ lamb chops (5.6BD) sounded appetizing.  My wife ordered the Steak and Guinness pie .  The lamb chops were delicious.  There were six huge chops accompanied with some vegetables and nice, hot french fries.  The vegetables were nothing to write home about, but the fries made up for it.  My wife had nothing but good things to say about her pie.  The pastry top was a hit. Overall, a great meal.  A couple notes, you must use the coupon BEFORE you order.  I went on a previous occasion and they wouldn't honor my coupon because I presented it after I ordered.  Second, my wife and I like to get there around 6pm so we can get in and get out before the music starts playing too loud and the place starts getting filled with smoke.

House Boat (Asian)

House Boat over at Amwaj is one of my favorite restaurants in Bahrain.  On this trip, the Houseboat Lettuce Wraps (3.5BD) caught my eye for an appetizer. The wraps were ok, but it's hard to live up to any other lettuce wrap once you've had the wraps at P.F. Changs, but I had to give them a try. For the main course, I had the Katsu Chicken (4.2BD) and my wife had the Chili Beef (4.2BD) with an order of Jasmine rice (1.9BD).  As always, the food was delicious and we walked away stuffed.  The bonus on this trip was we used a buy one, get one entree free coupon.  Add a couple ice teas, a bottle of water and my coupon, the total bill was 13.86BD.  Oh, we were informed a new House Boat is opening up this week in Adliya.

Healthy Calorie

Located in American Alley, Healthy Calorie advertises a healthy selection of foods, in which the restaurant lets you know the calorie count on your receipt.  I ordered the Chicken Spinach Burger and my wife ordered the Haloumi Cheese Sandwich.  Both sandwiches were pretty good.  I've heard some good feedback about the soups; however, they offer a different soup on different days. On this Friday, the soup of the day was Corn Soup.  So, I gave it a try.  I was a little disappointed in the soup. It was actually an Egg Drop soup with chicken and about 5 kernels of corn.  Overall, the meal was a decent lunch and the price was good.  Most menu items are between 2-3BD. Oh, since I dined in, they didn't bring me my final receipt, so I'm not sure how many calories I had.

The Links (Riffa Views GC)

My wife and I went to get some pizza at Prego's, located at the Riffa Views golf course.  However, Saturdays was a 12BD buffet, so we went to over to the Links instead. This was my first time at the Links and was wow'ed by the great view of the 18th hole as we sat down.  The menu had a large selection of meals, including some great sounding steaks.  Since this was lunch, I ordered the fish and chips (4.9BD) and my wife ordered the rib-eye steak baguette (4.9BD).  For drinks, I ordered a Blackberry Ice Tea Forte (1.7BD) and and my wife had a Cappuccino (1.5BD). We were a little taken back when when the plates arrived.  The fish was huge, almost half the plate and my wifes sandwich was about twice the size we were expecting.  Both the ribeye and fish were excellent and the "chunky- chips" (steak fries) were delicious.  Add a bottle of water and the meal came to 14.20BD.  We were very impressed with our meal.

Banana Leaf (Thai)

After several recommendations for some good Thai food, my wife and I visited the Banana Leaf in Adilya.  The parking is a little tricky, but once you find it, you won't be disappointed. We started off with the Vegetable Spring Rolls (2BD) and drinks.  My wife had a coffee (1BD) and I had the fresh lime juice (1BD). For the main course, my wife had the whole fried fish (5BD) and I had the Tom Yum Noodles (2BD).  My wife loved the fish.  I tried it and it was good; however, I'm a little gun shy of food with bones.  My Tom Yum with noodles was a hit.  The soup was like a traditional Tom Yum, but it had some pho like noodles in it.  It was really good. We also ordered steam rice (.5BD).  In total, a great meal for 11BD.

Stopped by DQ in American Alley for a small Chocolate Chunk frozen yogurt.  To ensure you get a nice, thick yogurt, the staff will give it the upside-down quality assurance check.

IHOP (Breakfast)

Well, after a couple of weeks of being deterred by the long lines at the newly opened International House of Pancakes at the City Center, my wife and I finally got it. We arrived on a Saturday morning around 0930, and we only had to wait about 10 minutes.  Once we were seated, the hostess informed us that our waiter was very busy, but would be with us in a few minutes.  A few seconds later, Charleston the waiter, came to the table with menus and a smile.  Charleston also told us that he was busy because a co-worker didn't show up for work.  With all the warnings, Charleston did a wonderful job and we didn't wait at all to give our order or receive our food.  On this joyous occasion, I ordered the Smoked Sausage Combo, with pancakes (3.95BD).  My wife order the Spinach Omelet with pancakes (4.5BD) and an extra order of hash browns (.75BD).  We both had coffee (3.0BD) and I had an extra ice tea (1.25BD).  It wasn't long after we ordered, the manager showed up with our food.  It was really quick!  The manager was confided that the food was going to be better than that in the U.S.  I thought the food was terrific.  In fact, I couldn't tell the difference, and the price wasn't too far off of what we paid back in the states. Our total bill was 13.45BD.  The variety of pancake syrups were great, our favorite being the butter pecan.  The only hiccup that we had was the server delivering the coffee provided us a pot of coffee, which had enough coffee to barely fill one cup.  However, good 'ol Charleston rectified the situation within minutes.  I've heard differing reports from others regarding slow service and the quality of the food. Like I mentioned, we were quite happy with both.

Sumo Sushi & Bento

I've waked by Sumo Sushi and Bento located in American Alley over a hundred times.  Finally, my wife and I stopped for dinner.  I'm a big fan of salmon, so I ordered the Salmon Lovers Bento.  The bento came with salmon sashimi, a couple types of salmon rolls and some type of salmon on a salad.  My wife ordered the sumo fried rice, and was torn between ordering the Crispy Wasabi Crab roll or the Crunchy Crazy Crab roll.  I told her to order both.  We enjoyed the sushi; however, we weren't too crazy about the rice.  Overall all, the meal was good, but the total bill came to 19.8BD.  I think that's a little pricey for some American Alley sushi, but I've heard a lot of great reviews from people that dine there so I'll let you judge for yourself.

Kosebasi (Breakfast)

Located in the City Center, next to the Butcher Shop and P.F. Changs, is Kosebasi.  My wife and I were with another couple, who recommended the restaurant for breakfast.  Let me say upfront, the place was a huge hit.  For starters, we ordered the Turkish Special, which was a selection of breads accompanied by honey and jams.  For my main entree, I ordered the Menemen Omelet.  The Menemen is an omelet of sorts served with vegetables and tomatoes all cooked up in a bowl, accompanied by a salad and hash browns.  My wife ordered the Spinach Omelet.  The spinach omelet was huge and was also served with a salad and hash browns.  The salads were void of any dressing, but the rest of the meal made up for it.  The meal also came with a complimentary bread basket from the wood fire oven, so there was no shortage of bread on the table.  Our friends ordered the Menemen Omelet and the sausage and fried eggs.  They had nothing but positive remarks on their breakfast as well.  With the two meals, order of bread, a cappuccino and peach tea, the bill came to 11.20BD.   Not the least expensive breakfast in town, but it was delicious.

Johnny Rockets

One our way to Seef Mall, my wife and I stopped at Johnny Rockets for quick bite. We were welcomed by the friendly and enthusiastic wait staff.  We ordered the grilled turkey sandwich, an order of half/half (fries and onion rings) and an order of chicken wings in hot sauce.  The sandwich was good, but the onion rings and wings were outstanding.  The wings were nice and crunchy, yet drowned in hot sauce.

Charly's Grilled Subs

It's been a little while since my wife and I visited "American Alley" in Juffair.  We noticed several new dining establishments, one of which is Charley's Grilled Subs.  I've been trying to eat on the "lighter" side, so I ordered the garden salad with grilled chicken and a chicken wrap.  That was probably too much food, but I don't have a problem eating what's in front of me.  The wrap was good, but may have been better with a some type of dipping sauce.  The salad was good as well, but the grilled chicken was a little award in the salad.  I guess I'm used to chicken chunks in the salad.  My wife didn't hold back and ordered the Steak Deluxe and an order of the Ultimate Fries.  I think the Ultimate Fries took the award for the best tasting item on the plate, though probably not the most healthiest. We ate outside and enjoyed the entertainment American Alley offers at night. All the food plus a couple bottles of water came to 7.2BD
