Movenpick (Brunch)

It's been a while, but we hit the Movenpick for brunch this week.  As always, the Movenpick delivers on some delicious food.  The brunch offers a huge selection of seafood, sushi, meats, cheeses, dim sum, salads, pasta and other sides.  They offer a nice selection of fresh seafood, then cooked to order. The brunch is very family friendly, offering children balloons and cotton candy.  Reservations are usually required to get a table. The only thing that I didn't care for was the volume of the music being played in the restaurant.  Everyone at our table had to yell across the table to carry on a conversation. Other than that, it was a great meal.  Cost for two (non-alcohol) was 51BD.

IHOP

It was another delicious breakfast at IHOP.  My wife ordered the Spinach Omelet, which came with the omelet and pancakes (4.5BD), a side order of Hash Browns (750fills) and an order of coffee (1.5BD).  I tried something new, the Spinach, Roasted Red Pepper & Cheese Griddle Melt Breakfast Sandwich ( 3.5BD). The sandwich was delicious, but you really have to like spinach to enjoy it.  We found getting to IHOP I found getting before 0930 is the perfect time to beat the weekend crowd. However, the Citi Centre makes it difficult to get to the restaurant that early. The mall doesn't open the 3rd level parking garage that early and only the ground floor doors are open to the mall.  Citi Centre management should really visit this. If the restaurants are open, why wouldn't access to the mall parking and mall doors be open as well?

Starbucks (PSL Annoucment)

Here with a public service announcement, the Pumpkin Spice Latte's (PSL) have arrived at Starbucks.  I just enjoyed my first Grande, 3 Pump, Skinny, Pumpkin Spice Latte of the season for 2.3BD.

Papa John's

Well, Pizza Hut isn't the only place offering a family special.  Papa John's offers a Meal for Two, which includes an appetizer (we chose the potato wedges), a medium pizza (we chose the Garden Special with pepperoni) and two drinks.  All this for only 5.6BD.  On this trip, we ate at the shopping plaza out by the A'Ali Pottery Factory.  Papa John's at this location has a very nice, semi private, dining area just off the food court.

Elevation Burger

For lunch this week, my wife and I visited Elevation Burger at the Seef Mall.  Since I'm counting calories, I ordered the Veggie Burger (2.45BD), without cheese with lettuce, tomato, onion, mustard and ketchup.  My wife ordered a single cheeseburger (2.25BD) and we both split an oder of fries (1.25BD).  What really tempted me was the Vertigo Burger stacked with 10 patties; however, that wasn't on the diet.  Elevation Burger boasts its fresh, organic ingredients.  My Veggie burger had the best tasting lettuce, tomato, onion and bun I've had in a long time.  However, the veggie burger didn't have much of a taste.  My wife on the other hand, saved me a small bite of her cheese burger.  Now that was delicious!  The hamburger and fresh cheddar cheese was very, very good! My recommendation, if your not counting the calories, go for the burger!!!

The Butcher Shop

I've been to the Butcher Shop previously, and learned they have a really nice tasting steak.  On this trip, I had the Lamb Chops (9.8BD).  To be honest, I was really disappointed in the meal.  In fact, a friend suggested I try the Lamb Shank; well, I got my wires crossed and ordered the chops instead.  The chops were very fatty, a tough fat that my knife had a hard time cutting through.  Needless to say, I won't be ordering the chops again.  For my next visit, I'll try the Shank.

Le Chocolat (Breakfast)

If you've been following the EXPAT for a while, you'll know that Le Chocolat has a lot more to offer than great desserts and coffee and pizza. They also have a nice breakfast menu.  On this trip, my wife and I both ordered the Italian Omelet (2.5BD) and a Cafe Americano with hot milk (1.3BD).  The omelet was delicious and was served on a bed of hash browns, with a variety of toast, a salad and grilled mushrooms.

David's Stir Fry Crazy

My wife and I have been driving past the back of Davids Stir Fry Crazy for a couple years now, but never thought much of visiting the place because it didn't look too appealing. However, the store front is just down the street from SeƱor Paco's.  Recently, a few folks at work were talking about how good the place was. So, we joined some friends who are regulars of the place for a weekend dinner. There was several of us at the table, and we started ordering it up and we all shared the dishes.  The menu offers A LOT of selections.  The entree that jumped out at me was the frog legs, but there were not available.  My wife and I ordered a Lettuce Wrap with Beef (3.9BD), the Teppanyaki Beef (6.2BD), Crispy Egg Plant (3.0BD) and Steamed Rice (500fills).  Everything on the table was delicious and I highly recommend this place.  I'm just amazed I haven't heard more about David's Stir Fry Crazy until now.

Diamond Fish

There's a new seafood restaurant over in the Alrosa shopping complex next to the Diva Hotel in Juffair.  On the first floor, you'll find the Diamond Fish restaurant.  The restaurant offers a fresh selection of seafood that you can select from and have prepared to your liking.  There is also a menu offering a variety of dishes.  My wife and I went on a weekend for lunch, and ordered off the menu.  My wife ordered the Fish and Chips (5.5BD) and I ordered the Spicy Hammour Tikka Sandwich (2.2BD).  Both dishes were very good.  I really enjoyed the fish sandwich.  It came out on a fresh, soft french loaf and tasted great.  I though my wife's plate looked a little thin for the price, but she said it was very good.

Pizza Hut

There are a lot of great pizza places here in Bahrain; Mino's, iL Capo, Le Chocolat and Pizza Express to mention a few. Every now and then, my wife and I like some good ol' Pizza Hut.  Pizza Hut offers a really good dinner for two and family meal specials.  We always order the dinner for two, which comes with any medium style pizza, garlic bread, a salad from the salad bar and two drinks, for only 4.7BD.  Note, the meal only includes one salad bar plate, so we order a second plate for 1.8BD.  It's a great deal and we have enough for take-away.

Dome (Riffa)

My wife and I were looking for a lunch spot to use one of our Entertainer coupons, and came across the Dome.  We've been to the Dome in Juffair a few times, but weren't impressed by the smell of smoke in the place.  We decided to visit the Riffa location, which in my opinion, is a lot nicer.  We went for fish, my wife ordered the Fish and Chips (3.7BD) and I ordered the Fish and Prawns (4.2BD).  Both meals were excellent, perfect for lunch. The fact that we got 3.7BD off the meal using the Entertainer coupon was even better!

Hard Rock Cafe

This may not be North Carolina BBQ, but it's still very good.  I would highly recommend the pulled lamb bbq sandwich at Hard Rock.  I was surprised how good it was. With sides of cole slaw, beans and fries, the meal makes for a nice lunch or dinner for only 4.7BD.  My wife ordered the pulled chicken for only 4.0BD, she really enjoyed hers as well.
