Med Cafe

After visiting the Bahrain Mall, we noticed a Med Cafe located just in front of the parking entrance of the mall.  My wife and I decided to stop for a coffee after we finished our shopping.  Walking up to the entrance, there were signs directing family and non-smoking patrons to use the back entrance.  Since we are non-smokers, I continued to the back entrance.  Once inside, we could smell the aroma of the hooka.  Sure enough, the Cafe is divided into smoking and non-smoking dining areas.

The place took me back to Mykonos, Greece, with all the blue and white design, which was very welcoming.  After reviewing the menu, I was surprised to see how comprehensive it was for a Cafe.  So instead of coffee, we ordered a light lunch instead.  My wife indulged in the Chocolate Banana Crepe and Black Tea and I opted for the Saj Tawouk Pita and a Diet Coke. The pita was pretty good and crepe was excellent. The restaurant offers a large selection of turkish style dishes, desserts and juices at a very reasonable price. Our bill was about 6BD.

Broasted Chicken

If you want a good, quick dinner, you can simply call the place known as Broasted.
My typical order is the 10 piece; which includes a chicken breast cut in quarters, 2 wings, 2 thighs and 2 legs. The cost is only 2.7BD. The meal also comes with fries, 4 pitas, gravy and garlic butter.  The place is actually located in Adliya; however, they deliver!
I simply call 1718-0588 and they arrive in about 30 minutes.  Perfect for a last minute dinner idea, potluck dinner or game night.

PIzzabella

One of my favorite pizza places in Hamala is Pizzabella.  It's a nice, friendly restaurant offering great pizza and salads.
On this occasion, we had the Pizza Primavera, with sun-dried tomato, mushroom, red onion, green pepper, black olive with mozzarella and pizza tomato sauce.  We also had the Caesar Salad, with crisp romaine lettuce, herb croutons and parmesan cheese.

My favorite is the Pizza Inferno, which has pepperoni, red onion, green pepper, jalapeno pepper and mozzarella cheese. The Greek Salad is great, containing feta cheese, black olives, cucumber, lettuce, tomato, fresh mint and oregano. They have other pizza offerings such as:
Pizza Carnivora, Pizza Bresaloa, Pizza Melanzane, Pizza Pollo Chicken, Pizza Pepperoni, Pizza Funghi, Pizza Di Mare and Pizza Blazing Saddles. The menu also offers other side items such as Garlic, Pesto Garlic and Sun-dried tomato breads, potato wedges, chicken wings and Baci Formaggio (roasted mozzarella and potato bites).

TGI Fridays Breakfast (Update)

UPDATE: Like most good things, some things are too good to last.  This is true for the 3.5BD off your next meal for completing the online survey.  I recently learned that TGI Fridays will no longer allow you to use the 3.5BD off for breakfast or the lunch special.  That's a bummer.  The discounted breakfast was the real reason we were going there for breakfast.

One my favorite breakfast spots is TGI Fridays.  They offer a decent selection of western items, including omelets, BLT's, pancakes, french toast and more.  My personal favorite is the omelet with bell peppers, onions and mushrooms.  The potato cakes are absolutely delicious.  When I'm trying to lose a few pounds, I substitute the potato cakes for mixed fruit.  You can order white or brown (wheat) toast and each order comes with a drink. (I get ice tea, my wife orders coffee with warm milk)

Be sure to fill out the customer survey located at the bottom of your receipt.  After submitting your survey online, you'll be given a code to record on your receipt.  The process takes about 3 minutes, and you'll receive 3.5BD off your next meal.  My wife and use this every weekend, so breakfast for two cost us less then 2BD a visit.

Macaroni Grill

Romano's Macaroni Grill is one of our American Alley favorites.  Conveniently located, and they always seem to be open, it's a great place to hit for an early dinner.  There is an upstairs and downstairs for dining.  Here's a tip, depending on the time of year, it can get pretty warm downstairs, while the upstairs remains pretty cool. My wife and I always order the same dishes. I get the Parmesan Crusted Chicken Salad and my wife orders the Eggplant Parmesan. Each meal comes with a loaf of rosemary bread and served with olive oil, though we always ask for balsamic vinegar to use instead.  There is always enough food to have some to "take-away."

Pizza Hut

There are a lot of pizza restaurants located throughout Bahrain.  Pizza Hut is one of the many.  We visited the location in Juffair, which is tucked behind American Alley and the DoDDs School.  The pizza tasted just like the pizza back in the States. This location even had a small salad bar that had a variety of tasty salads, including macaroni, potato and tuna.  The menu offers several specials, at a very reasonable price.  We ordered the Meal for Two, offering a medium pizza, garlic bread, a trip for one to salad bar and drinks, for only 4.5BD.
