Tea Club

I wanted to make a public service announcement that the Tea Club at Amwaj has a new food menu.  The Tea Club remains one of our favorite restaurants, and the new menu now includes more appetizers, burgers and pizza.  On this trip, I ordered my favorite, the Buffalo Chicken Wrap (3.5BD) and my wife ordered the best "Philly" Steak Sandwich (3.9BD) in Bahrain.  What stole the show was the Jupiter Burger (4.4BD), ordered by our friend.  The burger was a monster and it included what the menu called, a "Cheese Bomb."  The cheese bomb was actually a mozzarella cheese patty on top of the burger.  As our friend was eating the burger, the cheese bomb was oozing mozzarella cheese like molten lava.  For you burger fans out there, you'll need to check it out.  As I often tell people, the Tea Club has a surprising delicious menu, be sure to give them a visit. Oh, they have an amazing selection of teas as well, both for dining in and you can buy packages of tea to go.

Macaroni Grill Iftar

The Macaroni Grill is also offering an Iftar special, an all you can eat menu for only 5.9BD.   The meal includes the standard Rosemary Bread, your choice of either a Garden Salad or Caesar Salad, Tomato Bisque or Lentil Soup, BBQ Chicken Pizza and your choice of either Cheese Ravioli or Sun Dried Tomato Butterfly Pasta and home made chocolate cake for desert.  That's a lot of food, and it's all you can eat.  My wife and I were stuffed before the pasta dishes arrived. A very good meal, with a lot of variety, for the price.

Copper Chimney

It was dinner at the Copper Chimney for some great Indian cuisine.  I often like to order different menu items when I frequent a good restaurant. However, in the case of Copper Chimney, I tend to order the Chicken Vindaloo (3.8BD), Indian Spicy and Saffron Rice (2.2BD).  I don't know if it's actually listed on the menu, so you may need to ask for it specifically.  You can also order the Vindaloo with lamb, but personally prefer the chicken.  I've also ordered it medium spicy and spicy hot, but now I like to order it "Indian" spicy.  It's a not terribly hot, but it's a nice heat that builds as the night goes on. My wife prefers the Bhoona Gosht (3.8BD), made with lamb and green peppers and side of Potato Nan (1.3BD).  The Copper Chimney isn't the cheapest Indian food in Bahrain, but I've never had a bad meal.

Papa Johns Iftar

If you're looking at a good Iftar for the dinar, then Papa Johns pizza may be the place.  They are offering an all you can eat special for only 2.5BD.  My wife and I have been looking to hit up a Papa Johns for a week now. However, both the American Alley in Juffair and the Amwaj locations have been packed as soon as the fast breaks.  So, we came up with our own strategy, and decided to go to the Papa Johns at the Bahrain Airport.  Well, the strategy worked and we got a table.  The special comes with a plate of appetizers (these are the only appetizers that are part of the special) and a standard pizza. You get all you can eat appetizers, pizza and drinks.  Any additional items on the menu will be in addition to the 2.5BD. I did read on the fine print on the Iftar sign at the restaurant that you only get to eat for 1 hour. Though, that would be eating a lot of food! So, we each got an plate of appetizers and a veggie pizza.  We walked away very full!

Chili's Iftar

Tonight's Iftar was at the American Alley Chili's in Juffair.  Chili's is offering a free plate of dates and a glass of laban, chicken and mushroom soup, salad and a dessert with the purchase of any entrĂ©e. My wife ordered the steak fajita (5.6BD) and I ordered the "new" spicy chicken tacos (4.6BD).  The tacos are made with a fried chicken vice grilled.  The tacos were ok; however, the steak fajitas were really good.  The dessert was nice, vanilla ice-cream with a strawberry topping. So, the Iftar special at Chili's will ensure you leave the restaurant stuffed! Also, be sure to check your receipt.  If you go online and complete the customer survey, you'll get a free main course on your next visit.

Veranda Iftar

Time for another Iftar, this time at Veranda in Amwaj.  For only 6BD, we were welcomed with a nice selection of appetizers, breads (including nan), hummus, salads and a variety of "hot" appetizers. They also offered a celery soup, which was surprisingly good.  On the main line was hammour, pumpkin and potato curry, a green chicken and rice, pasta and tandoori steak.  My favorite was the green chicken.  The restaurant also offered a variety of desserts, tea and coffee to compliment the dinner.  Overall, a good dinner for the price.

Elite Crystal Iftar

Another popular Iftar in Juffair is at the Elite Crystal.  For only 5.5BD, you get a large selection of food and desserts, at a very reasonable price.  They offer a selection of traditional nuts, dates and juices to start, followed by a variety of salads and two types of soup, dahl and spinach.  I had the dahl and my wife raved about the spinach.  For the main, I enjoyed the lamp chops the best.  They also had a pasta dish, grilled chicken a lamb stew and fish biryani to mention a few.   I spoke with the manager and he said they will be offering different foods on different days, and recommended reservations.  This is my second year for the Crystal Elites Iftar dinner, and for the price, is definitely worth a visit.

Houseboat Iftar

One of my favorite restaurants in Bahrain is the Houseboat.  So, my wife and I went to the Houseboat in Adliya for their Iftar special. For just 5.9BD a person, you'll defiantly get your money's worth.  We arrived shortly before 7pm and we were the first in the restaurant.  We were greeted with a plate of dates and fruit.  There was a selection of traditional Iftar juices on the line and a little bit of everything for appetizers and main dishes.  They offered the dahl soup, hummus, bread and other treats and salads for appetizers.  For the main courses, it was some type of lamb curry, green thai chicken curry and the spicy beef.  All three dishes were very good.  They also had a selection of cakes and puddings for dessert.  Overall, a great dinner for the price.
